Our Services

All services are dependent on the types of services our volunteers are willing to offer.

Our trained community volunteers provide all of our services at no charge to those who meet the requirements. Learn more about our programs below.

We do not provide assistance with personal care services like toileting, dressing, bathing, meal preparation, and hands-on help with movement.

Companionship services provide friendship for our neighbors who may be lonely and socially isolated. Visits last for 1-2 hours once a week or every other week based on the neighbor’s need. Caregiver Companion volunteers are matched with neighbors according to their shared need, interests, and location.

Volunteer drivers can provide roundtrip rides for our neighbors to their essential appointments, grocery store, or pharmacies. Caregiver Companion is not a transportation company and an in-home assessment must take place before you can request a ride. The essential criteria for a ride request are:

  • Neighbors must be able to transfer themselves in/out of the vehicle.
  • Volunteers can transport a cane, walker, and/or a portable oxygen tank. Volunteers cannot transport a wheelchair.
  • All rides must be requested at least 7 days in advance.
  • Neighbors may receive 1 roundtrip ride per week.
  • Volunteers will not accompany the neighbor into the treatment room and will not provide assistance with understanding medical information shared by the medical providers during the appointment.
  • All rides are roundtrip. The volunteer will pick up the neighbor at their home, transport them to the appointment, wait for them, and transport them back to their home.
  • The ride provided will be roundtrip to one location identified by the neighbor when he/she requests the ride.

Volunteers can provide assistance in the store (e.g. push the grocery cart, select items from the shelf, carry bags, etc.).

Volunteers are available to do grocery errands for neighbors with or without the neighbor present, depending on the preference of the neighbor. Neighbors must pay for their groceries and provide a grocery list. We encourage the neighbor to accompany the volunteer on these grocery runs, as this experience builds the relationship between the neighbor and volunteer, but recognize these trips away from home may not be possible for all neighbors. Neighbors must pay for their groceries and bring a list. Volunteers make this roundtrip in support of the neighbor.

Our volunteers do not provide handyman or contracting services and cannot help move furniture or do heavy lifting. Our ability to offer this service depends on volunteer. It is up to their time and desire to help in this way.

Some neighbors are looking for support or socialization over the telephone. These telephone reassurance calls usually take place once a week or every other week to reduce social isolation. These calls from one of our volunteers may begin as short calls and then become longer as the companionship grows, sometimes stretching 15 minutes or more.

These housekeeping services are requested during the time of the in-home assessment and can include helping to take out the trash, sweeping, or filling a dishwasher. These seasonal services are provided through volunteer groups and individuals. These services focus on essential yard care and safety. Please call the Caregiver Companion office if you need these services as they are often provided on an “as needed” basis.

What to Expect

At Caregiver Companion, when you begin our services you become our neighbor. Together, with our willing volunteers,  we seek to offer non-medical assistance once a week and bring friendliness and compassion to everything they do. For assistance outside our scope of care, we recommend checking out our resources page.
